Latest news & events
The new Eurocodes Starter Pack of Scia Engineer is offered to cover the needs of civil engineers who want to model, analyse and design typical frame, truss and similar structures made of steel and concrete according to the Eurocodes.
Evaluation & Benchmarks
Evaluation
The CTICM (French Steel Construction Institute), a major reference for steel construction in France and Europe, evaluated and certified our implementation of Eurocode 3 part 1-1 in Scia Engineer 2008.0.19.
For many years, the application of first the Eurocodes ENV and later the EN in Belgium has allowed our engineers to build up strong experience in this field, one that will soon concern every engineer in Europe. This long practice has now been rewarded by this evaluation.
The detailed analysis by the CTICM investigated the benchmarks produced by Nemetschek Scia as well as many complementary tests. The ease of use and the documentation provided were also considered.
The conclusion is positive and the CTICM evaluators declare “having appreciated the level of performance of the software for the steel code check considering the complexity of the Eurocodes to be implemented”.
What does this mean for our users? That they can now start crossing the bridge to the Eurocodes with full confidence, safe in the knowledge that their calculation software will fully support them.
As a consequence, they can be the first to leverage the technical advantages found in the new code, to position themselves on the market and answer the requirements of the authorities and project owners starting from the beginning of 2010.
The complete certificate is available in the Annex. Compared with the evaluated version, we take the opportunity to announce that Scia Engineer 2010 (currently in the final stages of development) already integrates all recently available correction sheets for the Eurocodes.
Benchmarks
To guarantee the optimal quality of Scia Engineer, benchmarks are set up in order to compare the results of Scia Engineer with manual calculations. The benchmarks are checked daily through 7,500 automatic tests.
These benchmarks are performed for all the functionalities in Scia Engineer.
The attached document describes how quality is integrated in Scia Engineer:

Benchmarks Eurocode 3
In these documents, the results of Scia Engineer concerning the Steel Code Check according to EN 1993 are compared to benchmark projects. A total of 43 benchmarks are evaluated for EN 1993-1-1, EN 1993-1-2 and EN 1993-1-3. In addition some benchmarks include parts of EN 1993-1-5.
The benchmarks concern examples of:
