ECtools tutorials
ECtools is a design software for Reinforced Concrete and Unreinforced Masonry Structures
that aims to facilitate the practicing structural engineer or the design office in the correct
application of the several clauses of Eurocodes 2, 6 and 8. It utilises the analysis results
of Scia Engineer.
On this page, 4 tutorials are available which give an overview of the use of ECtools when
dealing with different types of checks (Seismic design of new buildings, Assessment and
Retrofitting of existing buildings) and materials (Reinforced concrete or Masonry).
Seismic design of a R/C simple building
This is a presentation video for the interface of ECtools with Scia Engineer.
In this example a simple dual R/C building with 3 storeys and 1 basement is designed.
The structure is modeled in Scia Engineer and design according to EC2 & EC8 is done in ECtools
Seismic design of a complex R/C Building
The next video presents the application examples of two complex highrise buildings that
have been analysed using Scia Engineer and designed using ECtools according to
Eurocodes 2 and 8. The buildings are the Piraeus Bank Romania HQ in Bucharest
and the Bluecenter Office Building in Belgrade.
Unreinforced masonry building according to EC6 & EC8
This tutorial gives a demonstration of Example 4 (available in the ECtools setup),
which demonstrates the interface of ECtools and Scia Engineer when dealing with the
design or assessment of Unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings following the requirements
of EN1996 & EN1998.
Seismic assessment and retrofit of an existing R/C building
This movie shows the principles for the seismic review, asssessment and retrofitting of
R/C buildings according to the Eurocodes and especially Eurocode 8 part 3 (EN1998-3).
