The new Eurocodes Starter Pack of Scia Engineer is offered to cover the needs of civil engineers who want to model, analyse and design typical frame, truss and similar structures made of steel and concrete according to the Eurocodes.
Key features in ECtools
General buildings checks fitting the requirements of EN1998, such as:
- Automatic definition of building type
- Automatic calculation of behaviour factor q
- Torsional sensivity
- P-delta effects
- Required seismic joint at each level
Flexural design of all 1D elements, 2D walls and cores with biaxial Moment-Axial force interaction, using a very efficient algorithm that produces fast results while applying the cracked sections design concept with parabolic stress distribution for concrete.
Application of the capacity design concept, inherent in all modern seismic codes:
- Capacity design of joints (weak beam - strong column rule)
- Capacity shear design of all members for ductile behaviour (capacity shear forces)
Checking the design of a new building
- Input of the design results to be checked via spreadsheets
- Use of custom safety factors
- Indication of elements with inadequacy using red indicators in the status bar
Seismic assessment and strengthening of existing buildings
- Input of the design results to be checked via spreadsheets
- Use of custom safety factors for verified materials
- Use of element ductility factors (primary & secondary elements)
- Indication of elements with inadequacy using red indicators in the status bar
- Available strengthening options with R/C jackets for existing elements
Fire resistance check:
The structural fire design is based on member analysis using tabular data included in EN 1991-1-2 Section 5.
Based on the above data, and for fire exposure periods of 30 to 240 min, the program checks minimum dimensions and rebar axis distances (cover plus half the diameter of the reinforcement bars) for columns, walls and beams.
An extensive list of National Annexes is already available (Eurocode defaults, Greece, Italy, Germany, France, Romania, Czech Republic, Belgium, Cyprus, Austria and Slovenia). Other Annexes will follow soon and additional ones may be added on request.
The output report is avialable in different languages: English, Greek, German, French, Dutch and Italian
ECtools is a product developed by structural engineers, aiming to satisfy the needs of structural engineers when dealing with large projects. It has been extensively tested within the design office and many Universities and its predecessor, eTools, has been in use since 2002 in Greece and Cyprus.

ECtools Basic has all the features to design a new R/C Building with or without complex cores. The advanced version offers the possibilitiesfor retrofitting and reviewing the design of R/C and Masonry buildings. ECtools Mansory provides design rules for masonry buildings according to EC6.
